Dear reader,

Homebased businesses have always existed. But the latest trend is a smart and logical one where people form virtual teams with others, all working from their homes. (Maybe we should call these Multi-Homebased Businesses).

These businesses are often technical in nature, where several developers are lead by a project manager. The project manager finds the customers and guids the development and implementation process, just like in most project teams you could typically find in large organizations. So what’s so different about this approach?

Well, a big difference is that all members of the team are independent workers, often freelance workers who also work for other customers. Another big difference is there is no office: meetings are mostly done over phones or video (skype for instance) and if it is necessary, you can rent a meeting room or meet in a hotel lobby. Easy!

A big advantage is that the team is not managed by anyone, meaning the team can take it’s own decisions. Therefore more progress can be made: decisions can be taken faster than in any larger company, where you often have to deal with several management layers before a decision is made.

Now I have focussed on technical teams, but in fact you could run almost any type of business this way, and I firmly believe it will have much more potential because of it’s ability to make quick decisions and therefore implement the latest in options and resources available today. Years ago I was involved in a startup that started out this way, although that particular startup made the mistake of hiring people to do customer care and therefore needed an office.

With the tools available over the internet today, that is no longer necessary. And that makes it so much easier for anyone to start a company with others, joining forces and breaking ground.

Here’s to your business success!
